Impluvium, Gambia

Family home and guest pavillon

This is a private initiative designed for our client’s family, inspired by the local architectural concept known as the "impluvium." This unique design features living areas arranged around a central courtyard, which is specifically designed to collect rainwater. The central patio not only serves as a water collection system but also contributes to cooling the living spaces through the natural process of evaporation from the central pool.

Additionally, the use of raw earth walls enhances the thermal inertia of the buildings, providing effective protection against heat by maintaining a stable indoor temperature. This thoughtful combination of traditional and sustainable architectural elements ensures a comfortable and environmentally friendly living environment.
