A bit of a salty surprise!
In the middle of dry and sandy landscapes, and areas prone to flooding during rainy periods, where the waters of the Senegal River meet the tides of the ocean, we discovered this open-air mine containing clay. Only what you see in the third picture...
The Senegal River delta area, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, was formed 100,000 years ago. Few clues, however, indicating other clayey zones in this sector of Gandiol south of Saint-Louis. End of our experience....
