Donations for AVN-an experience

+++At the end of December 2024, full of enthusiasm, I joined Association la Voûte Nubienne's appeal for donations.

600 euros/ 1 house/ 1 family housed There were around thirty of us, children, parents, cousins, uncles and grandparents together at the end of the year. My 8-year-old niece urged me to speak, as if announcing an acrobatic act (well, we were accomplices in the affair :-) )

The certainty that my little speech would convince everyone without difficulty was my biggest mistake. Not prepared enough and forgetting to sound out my audience, the questions came from everywhere and I was taken aback. Then followed 20 minutes of fact checking. My brother consults the web, reads the Wikipedia entry and starts listing all the association's awards. The official Nubian Vault website gives me some respite. The wealth of information speaks for itself.

Ah, what a wonderful lesson in humility! Passion and personal persuasion are not enough to convince anyone, not even my own family, where no-one can doubt the validity of my approach.

Next time, I'll prepare a solid ‘elevator pitch’, and we'll be able to move on more quickly to the dessert.
